3 First-Day Tips and a Reassurance

We can’t wait to see all our AEA students tomorrow! We have three tips to help the day go smoothly, and one thing you should know about the school’s efforts to protect students’ health

1. Pack your patience. The first day is always a little chaotic outside the gates, and this year there will be a lot more people. The school has added almost 150 seats since 2019’s first day. Give yourself time. Complete your health screening before you leave home. You can fill it out as a “guest” without logging in as a student. Start typing “The Academy for Excellence Through the Arts” or try “Q303” if you’re having trouble finding the school.

2. Don’t double park. Don’t illegally park. If you’re driving to the school, leave yourself time to find a space, even if it’s a block or two away. It’s safer for all our students, and will help with everyone’s stress.

3. Label your school supplies, because many items like crayons and scissors won’t be communal this year, under Covid protocols. Students’ supplies will be kept separate. Please don’t send in the full boxes on the first day; send in a few items at a time as they fit in your students’ backpack. Send notebooks first, paper towels later.

And, one thing Mrs. Leto asked us to share, that she missed at the On Stage: Be assured that the school staff will be constantly cleaning all high-touch surfaces like banisters, and that the Café will be cleaned in between students’ lunch periods. The administration wants every student in their seats for all 180 days this year, and they’re committed to doing everything they can to keep students healthy.

PTA President Stacey Shick Samuels and Vice President Michele Molfetta will around tomorrow to say hi and help families. We’re also hoping to set up some meet-and-greets for next week. Stay tuned!
