Nominations for the 2019-20 PTA board are due at our meeting on Thursday. We’ve heard from a few SLT hopefuls, but just one executive board candidate. If you think you might be interested in helping the PTA: This is your opening. Feel free to reach out to the current board for encouragement.
As a reminder, here’s the letter from the nominating committee.
The PTA nominating committee is seeking nominations for PTA board positions, as well as for four members of the School Leadership Team (SLT), for the 2019-2020 school year. The PTA positions have one-year terms, from July 1, 2019, to June 30, 2020. The SLT positions have a two-year term.
Volunteers are needed to run for the mandatory positions of:

School Leadership Team: Estimated time commitment: 1 hour per month
In December 1996, amendments to the New York State Education Law required the chancellor to take steps to ensure that SLTs were in place in every New York City public school. SLTs play a significant role in creating a structure for school-based decision making and shaping the path to a collaborative school culture. SLTs are a vehicle for developing school-based educational policies and ensuring that resources are aligned to implement those policies. Functioning in a collaborative manner, SLTs assist in the evaluation and assessment of a school’s educational programs and their effect on student achievement.
SLT meetings are conducted monthly at 7:30 a.m. at AEA/P.S. 303. SLT representatives (consisting of six parents and six teachers) attend all meetings and communicate the proceedings to the PTA.
You may also seek a nomination for non-mandatory officer positions, including Vice President and Corresponding Secretary.
If you would like to nominate a candidate, or if you are interested in one of the positions described, please send an e-mail to the following preferably be Thursday’s PTA meeting (or at latest by Wednesday, May 1st):
Nominations will be made at the April 11, 2019, PTA meeting and elections will be conducted during the May 9, 2019, PTA meeting at 7 p.m. in the school cafeteria. Each candidate will be given the opportunity to speak before the election if they choose.
