We hope all our families are continuing to manage through this week and staying healthy!
Read-A-Thon Starting Tomorrow / Monday!
Back by popular demand, we are hosting our Read-A-Thon starting tomorrow / Mon, Mar 8. We want to encourage our children in a playful way to read and discover the joy it brings! You should have all received a log-in code from your child’s teacher to activate your account. Please see the flyer here for additional details and how to participate, happy reading!
Virtual Reading Buddies Event
To celebrate the Read-A-Thon, we are hosting a Reading Buddies Event! In the past, our school administration had special days when older grades went to younger grades and read to them. The kids loved it! Because of COVID-19, these fun school events are difficult to offer in-person.
On March 14, we will be hosting a virtual reading buddies event and interested families can sign up to be read to (younger grades) or to read (older grades). Our recommendation is that 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th graders are reading to 1st graders, kindergarten and pre-k kids.
Parents, we need your help to make this a success. We will pair up older and younger students and assign them a reading room (breakout room). We need parent volunteers to quietly observe the session and help out if needed. We also need older children to sign up as readers. More detailed instructions will be provided when you or your child chooses to volunteer.
When: Sunday, March 14 at 3pm (estimated time frame: 30-45 minutes)
Where: Zoom (link will be sent out 1 hour prior to the event)
Please let us know here if you would like your child to participate (as a listener or reader) and if you would like to volunteer, thanks!
Storytime with Ms. Weissbach
We are excited to announce two virtual story hours with our former Pre-K teacher, Ms. Weissbach! On Monday, March 15 and March 22 at 4pm, Ms. Weissbach will be reading a book to our students followed by a discussion and a small art activity. Both events will last about 30-45 minutes and are geared towards students in grades Pre-K, Kindergarten and First Grade, however all students from AEA are welcome to join. You can participate in one event or both. Please RSVP here for the March 15 event and here for the March 22 event.
Author Reading with Mr. Vinny
Did you know that one of our AEA parents is a children’s book author? We are so excited to be hosting this special author reading with our very own AEA parent Mr. Chen a.k.a. Mr. Vinny!
On Thursday, March 18 at 4pm, Mr. Vinny will be reading two of his books to our students in a virtual story time. “Squish Squeeze and Smash” is geared towards 3-5 year olds and his second book “The Secret Castle In the Cloud: Lost Bitcoins” is written for 5-9 year olds. Please join us in listening to this gifted storyteller. You can RSVP here.
March PTA General Meeting
Join us for our next PTA general meeting on Thursday, March 11 at 7pm! Mrs. Bonthuys (Drama and Physical Education teacher) and Mrs. Vasilakis (STEAM teacher) will spend time with us informing parents about their work at AEA. In addition, the Bylaws Committee will be presenting suggested changes so we encourage you to attend to give your input during the meeting. To help them prepare, please give your input before the PTA meeting. Please RSVP here.
