This Week: School closed Monday and Thursday!

Happy Memorial Day weekend to all our families! A reminder that there is no school for students tomorrow / Monday for Memorial Day as well as this Thursday for Anniversary Day. Please see below for all the great school events planned for this week and other announcements!

Also, the Chancellor announced last week that schools will fully reopen to full-time, in-person learning in the fall! Take a listen to last week’s forum where she answered questions regarding next school year’s challenges. Please be on the lookout for additional information from the administration in the coming months.

Family Movie Night
Get your popcorn ready and join us for a family movie night to kick off this year’s AEA productions! We will be showing “The Greatest Show,” an AEA production from AEA students from June 2019 on Zoom on Wed, June 2 at 7pm. Please RSVP here.

A Pride Story Time: “Stella Brings the Family”
The Racial Equity Committee invites you to spend an afternoon on June 3 at 4pm celebrating Pride! They will be reading “Stella Brings the Family” by Miriam B. Schiffer, a story of a girl with two dads who is wondering how to celebrate Mother’s Day in school without feeling excluded. With the inspiration of her friends, Stella finds the perfect solution. In addition, participants will learn about the history of Pride and have the chance to begin their own family pride posters! Please RSVP here. Please contact the Racial Equity Committee at 303racialequity@gmail.com if you have any questions, thanks!

AEA Return to School Form
The school administration is looking ahead to program classes for the 2021-2022 school year. Please fill out the form (1 form per family) by May 31 to let them know if your child(ren) will be returning to AEA in September 2021. Please note that Ms. Donna does not work over the summer, and if your child will be attending a different school in September, they will need records from AEA. Letting the administration know your plans now for September will allow them to prepare such information before the end of the school year as well as accurately plan for our own classes for the fall.

PTA and SLT June Meetings
Please join us for the final PTA meeting of the school year on June 10 at 7pm! We will have new families joining us as we wrap up remaining business. Please RSVP here. Also, the final SLT meeting for the year will be this Wed, June 2. Please email Ms. Gallo if you’d like to attend as a silent observer.

NYC School Survey
Every year, families and teachers in grades 3-K through 12 and students in grades 6–12 across NYC share their thoughts on their experiences in and out of the classroom over the past school year. It’s important for everyone to fill this out for our school so we can get the valuable feedback! You can take the NYC School Survey online here by Friday, June 11. (In the access code text box, enter the letter “f” followed by your child’s nine-digit Student ID (OSIS) number).

1st Day School Supplies
If you’d like to order school supplies from 1st Day School Supplies for next year, the deadline is July 1! Please see the previous email for more details.

Virtual Queens Parent Advisory Board Meeting
Queens Borough President Donovan Richard invites us to the next virtual Parent Advisory Board Meeting on Tuesday, June 1 at 6pm. The meeting workshop will be on: The Rights of Special Needs Children and How Parents Can Better Advocate for their Child with an IEP. Please see the flyer for more details and to RSVP.

Summer Rising Program
We know a lot of families are thinking about the DOE’s Summer Rising Program, which runs from 8 am to 6 pm during the summer. Currently, PS 175 is scheduled to be the site for PS 303 students as well as students from seven or eight other nearby schools. Please note: this is all subject to change depending on how many children enroll and as the DOE builds out the program.  Please see the SLT memo for more details.

Weekly FACE email
Please see the weekly FACE email for additional district and citywide school announcements, news and events.

Have a great week!

In unity,
Your PTA of AEA
